At Zaphouse we created the ZapIndex as way to better understand how to address your acne concerns.
Just like in haircare where it is possible to identify your hair type, we wanted to create a system where we could do just that for your skin.
We all know skin is more than the typical way we often talk about it as oily, dry, combination, or 'normal'...and frankly these terms are super confusing even for those of us who have worked and done research on skin for years.
The ZapIndex consists of a number of factors:
Skin tone - when looking for acne solutions this is critical. Understanding your skin tone helps us better understand what types of ingredients and concentrations of ingredients we should be recommending to ensure we do not cause more harm than good. Surprisingly this is not something that is required to be taken into account when formulating products - and for acne/breakouts the skin is already inflamed which means we need to take extra care with anything we recommend to not causing further potential scarring.
Skin type - here we want to understand if your skin tends to be oily, dry, combo, or balanced.
Acne severity - the amount of acne you are experiencing.
Acne type - the types of breakouts you are experiencing, whether they are blackheads, white heads, cysts...or another type of acne imitator.
Stage - you could be dealing with more scarring or spots - and we need to know in order to best help you.
Location - breakouts can be on your face, but is also commonly below the neck, understanding the location can inform the types of products we recommend.
Lifestyle factors - it helps us to understand a little more about you - maybe your hormonal cycle, your stress levels (we all have it), and more.
All these factors are part of how we decide what we think will work best for you, and not just recommend products that could get the job done but not as well. If you ever have any questions we are always here on: Email, Instagram, or Geneva.
